Letter From the President

Dear Colleagues,

My name is Omid Kohani, and it is truly a privilege to serve as President of the Long Island Jewish Medical Center Medical Staff, effective January 1, 2026.

I am a cardiologist in the community and have had the opportunity to care for patients at LIJ for the past 16 years. Throughout that time, I have developed a deep appreciation for the dedication, professionalism, and collegiality of our medical and dental staff.  As your President, my primary responsibility is to represent the interests of all members of our staff—regardless of specialty, practice setting, or employment status.

As we begin this new year, our focus as a Medical Staff will be centered on several key priorities:

  • Ensuring the Medical Staff Society remains relevant and meaningful to physicians’ professional lives
  • Strengthening communication and collaboration between administration and the medical staff
  • Supporting education and professional growth
  • Upholding professionalism and ethical standards
  • Promoting physician wellbeing to help us deliver the highest quality care
  • Fostering health, wellness, and happiness through wellness, social, educational and professional initiatives

Your LIJ Medical Staff Society:

  1. Represents you to hospital administration, the Northwell Health system, and the community at large.
  2. Ensures physician representation in hospital governance through active involvement on key committees, including the Medical Board, Credentials Committee, Performance Improvement Coordinating Group, and others.
  3. Sponsors and supports clinical and educational initiatives through monetary grants.
  4. Hosts monthly Advisory Board meetings and periodic Medical Staff Affairs meetings to organize initiatives, address challenges, and enhance open communication with hospital administration.
  5. Provides Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) membership for all members of the medical staff. MSSNY offers valuable services for physicians, including advocacy and professional support. (Please visit our website for additional information.)
  6. Coordinates events throughout the year that foster collegiality, wellness, and education, including:

·         Annual Black-Tie Gala

·         Physician Socials

·         Family Picnic

·         Annual Medical Staff Meeting

·         CME conferences

·         Women in Medicine programs, conferences and events

I encourage and welcome each of you to engage with the Medical Staff in any way that feels meaningful to you. Even a small commitment can make a meaningful difference.

Please feel free to visit Medical Staff Society Office and Physician Lounge, located on the first floor of the main building, Room 1095 (next to Medical Records). The Attending lounges are private spaces designed for your comfort—whether you are completing medical records, enjoying breakfast, decompressing, or connecting with colleagues.

You may also visit our website at www.lijmedicalstaffsociety.com or contact the Medical Staff Office at 718-470-8708. The website is a helpful resource for staying informed about meetings and events and for communicating with your officers.
