Letter From the President

Dear Colleagues,

My name is Kevin Hyman. I have the privilege and honor to serve as the President of the Long Island Jewish Medical Center Medical Staff Society as of January 1, 2024.

I have been a full time Thoracic Surgeon in practice for the last 16 years. My responsibility, as your President, is to represent the best interest of the medical/dental staff, independent of specialty or employment status.

In keeping with the objective of the medical staff society, the goals before us in this new year are:

To make the medical staff society relevant to all physicians’ professional lives
To foster communication between administration and the medical staff
To promote education
To maintain professionalism and ethical values
To enhance the wellbeing of the medical staff with the objective to optimize the delivery of healthcare

Your LIJ Medical Staff Society:

1. Represents you to the hospital administration, the Northwell system and to the community at-large.
2. Has representation in the workings of the hospital by its involvement in several committees such as medical board, credentials committee, performance improvement coordinating group and others.
3. Sponsors and supports clinical and educational projects and physicians post graduate education through monetary grants.
4. Coordinates various events throughout the year, which foster social interaction and education.

a. Annual Black-Tie Gala

b. Physician Socials

c. Family Picnic

d. Annual Meeting

5. Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) membership for all members of the medical staff. MSSNY offers many services for physicians including advocacy. (Please see our website for more information)

6. Hosts monthly advisory board and medical staff affairs meetings to organize projects and activities for the year, and to formulate plans for facing challenges. In addition, these meetings are a platform to enhance communication with the hospital administration.

I hope to encourage and motivate each one of you to join the medical staff society in any way possible. Even the smallest commitment can make an impact. Visit the newly renovated Medical Staff Society office/Physician’s lounge located on the first floor of the main building room 1095 (next door to medical records). The Attending and Surgical lounges are private areas designed for your comfort while completing medical records, having breakfast, decompressing, or socializing with your colleagues.

Feel free to utilize the staff society website www.lijmedicalstaffsociety.com or call the medical staff society office 718.470.8708. The website can be a tool to stay informed regarding meetings and events or simply a way to communicate with your officers. We are eager to hear your suggestions and represent you to the best of our abilities.

The officers of the medical staff society:

Dr. Omid Kohani – President Elect
Dr. David Teng – Treasurer
Dr. Frederick Davis – Secretary
Dr. David Zeltsman – Immediate Past President

Together we can do so much. Over the years, there have been many changes in the practice of medicine that have put higher demands on physicians. Please join me as we rise to these challenges together and bring forth positive change.

Looking forward to a great new medical year.
