President’s letter March 20 2020

Dear Colleague,

The last two weeks have been difficult for all. With each passing day, the workload gets heavier, the information we receive is rapidly evolving and we are taking new measures to combat the many challenges that we are facing with this pandemic.

Updates:Both the LIJ Center for Advanced Medicine (CFAM) and the Schwartz Ambulatory Surgery Center at North Shore University Hospital will be closed as of Monday March 23, 2020.  Any surgery deemed urgent should be directed to the department’s Service Line Leader and then to Jessica Goldbeck (405-831-2461) who will consult with Dr. Gregg Landis, Surgeon in Chief, as needed.  In addition, PST at CFAM will be closed for at least the next two weeks.  Any urgent PST can be handled on site.

Due to the increased work load, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Residents and Fellows are being pulled into many unusual directions.  We need all hands on deck and I am sure that most of you are already doing everything you can.  This is our call for help, please do as much as possible of the hands-on care (orders, notes and summary-writing). Thank you so much for your understanding and collaboration.

In addition to the comprehensive Northwell Health resources, click here, the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) has several COVID-19 resources available to physicians (all LIJ Medical Staff Society members ARE members of MSSNY).  Please click here t o review these helpful resources.  Most notably is the section on how to set up Telemedicine for your patients. The LIJ Medical Staff Society is here to keep you informed and assist you in any way that we can. Please feel free to reach out to us.

Sincerely,Carmen Rodriguez, MD, FACOG
